Hopefully everyone enjoyed the long weekend!
This week we will build on the routines we have already established. We will working on expanding our reading Stamina as a class. We have made it to nine minutes and will continue to grow this week. We will also learn about how to pick "just right" books.
In math we will practice comparing pairs of numbers & learn how to write and read tally marks. We will continue our calendar routine, counting the days and number writing practice.
We'll launch our Pattern Unit in Writing Workshop. We'll start by looking at books together and sharing what we notice.
I am excited to hear all about the Forever books of all of our students. I will read these books to the class or a favorite page (or a few pages for those longer chapter books). So please send in a copy if you can. They will be kept in a safe spot and then returned home once we have read them.
I am also looking forward to getting to know each other more and guessing WHO is WHO from baby pictures. Remember to take your time with these first homework assignments. They are not due until Friday.
We will also start some literacy assessments this week: Reading, Spelling, Phonemic Awareness, Vocabulary. I try to make any assessment we do stress-free. I let kids know that we do these things to help me get to know them.
I share that I want to be the best teacher I can be for each and every student.
I can do this when I learn what they know.
This week will be short, BUT fun!
OTHER IMPORTANT NOTES:
FRIDAY IS OUR PICTURE DAY! We are scheduled for 10am. Make sure you have turned in your form!
PLEASE send in spare socks if you can. We use socks to erasers for our slates and my supply is a little low.
Remember to turn in the O.W.L folder.Thank you.
Ms. Jean-Pierre
